Atelier (noun) meaning a studio or workspace for artistic design.

I feel so lucky to have this 20sq metre art studio space all of my own to create in. In my previous homes I have always painted on the family dining table (it still bears the scars).

This meant that creative interludes came in short bursts as real life intruded on creativity.The main advantage of this new studio space is to be able to walk out and leave half-finished work where it is, with all the paraphernalia it takes to make a painting exactly where you need it when you resume work.

It is also wonderful to personalise and customise a work room to one’s own needs and taste. I have good work surfaces, plenty of light (both natural and artificial), running water over a tub and lots of space for storage.

I painted the walls a clean white with the end wall in a Resene colour called cut glass. It is a very pretty and restful eggshell blue-green shade.

As soon as I walk in there my mind whirs, my fingers tingle. And I start splashing paint around.
